Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Gets a Major Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.
Last October, the late-night programming block welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the network launched a fresh animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. In an era often characterized by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.
"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
A President's Endorsement
In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and supported its peculiarly charming style.
"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about following this charming family navigate their everyday routines.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running cynical streak. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
Future Seasons
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well be part of that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to experience the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
