Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening indicating they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and were in communication with the NFL.
The organization did not mention the player by name in their announcement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Posted on Social Media
The woman, who likewise did not name Rice directly, posted a set of images on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the team drafted in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable
No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.
Player's Recent Legal Issues
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this season following an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left multiple people injured. Rice was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
Statistically, he finished the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
