One-time economic leader Larry Summers is exiting the board at the artificial intelligence firm, just several days after a batch of digital correspondence between him and deceased financier Jeffrey Epstein became publicly available.

Summers stated in an announcement that he was "grateful for the chance to have participated, enthusiastic about the prospects of the company, and eagerly await observing their advancement".

The former Harvard president, who previously headed Harvard University, announced on recently that he would be stepping back from public responsibilities due to his association with Epstein.

Email Communications

The freshly disclosed emails revealed that the official communicated with the financier until the eve of the financier's 2019 arrest for accused human trafficking of young people.

In another announcement, the technology organization stated it understood the economist's determination to resign.

"We appreciate his significant contributions and the insight he brought to the governing body," the organization remarked.

Legislative Background

This development follows after the entire Congress of the US legislature agreed on recently to endorse a bill that would mandate the US justice department to disclose its documents on the case.

The measure will then head to the administration of US President Donald Trump for signature. The President has indicated he expects to endorse the measure, after modifying his position on the subject following objections from his base.

Correspondence Findings

A group of Epstein-related correspondence released by the House Oversight Committee days ago referenced numerous prominent individuals in the financier's former circle, without indicating any illegal behavior by those people.

The messages revealed that the professor and Epstein regularly had dinners together, with he often seeking to link Summers to prominent world leaders.

Personal Accountability

After the messages were released with the general audience, Summers said he assumed "full responsibility for my ill-advised judgment to continue interacting with Jeffrey Epstein".

He further stated that he wanted "to rebuild trust and repair bonds with the persons most important to me".

Professional History

Summers held high-level positions under party leaders; functioning as economic leader under Bill Clinton, and as leader of the National Economic Council under President Obama.

He led the institution from the early 2000s and continues to be a academic there. When announcing his departure from public roles recently on this week, he indicated he would maintain his academic responsibilities.

Other Impacts

Following Summers' statement on Monday, the Washington think tank, a progressive research organization in Washington where the professor was a researcher, confirmed that Summers was no longer associated with the group.

The former official joined the directorate of the AI company, which makes ChatGPT, in last year - following a failed attempt to oust its CEO OpenAI's head.
