Generational marksman Erling Haaland secures a crack at his initial international competition in the upcoming season, following his guidance Norway to the World Cup.

Furthermore, the 25-year-old Premier League striker did it in remarkable fashion, netting 16 goals in eight World Cup qualifying matches - finding the back of the net consistently in every one of those games.

This establishes him as the highest scorer in 2026 World Cup qualifying in any continent.

Moreover, his country's 4-1 win in Italy on Sunday, featuring a Haaland brace, means they will be participating in next summer's World Cup in the American continent.

Haaland, speaking afterwards: "I'm pleased, but more relieved. There's considerable expectation and factors, and I feel it. But it's fun."

This marks only their fourth World Cup, and their first major tournament since Euro 2000.

What Significance Has Haaland Been?

The striker's scoring statistics for Norway is absolutely remarkable.

He has scored 55 goals in 48 matches for Norway.

And in fact he is merely the sixth athlete ever, and the first in 53 years, to register 50 finishes in less than 50 appearances.

The nation's former leading goalscorer was Jorgen Juve with 33 goals, who held that record for nine decades.

In these qualifiers he registered 16 finishes - in eight games - plus two assists.

This amounts to double the goals tally any other player has scored in Europe.

He stands as the highest scorer in these qualifiers in any continent, including areas where teams play double the matches.

Over a year has gone by since Haaland most recently didn't net in a match for his country.

Team Effort Complementing Haaland

But it is not just a one-man show.

Skipper Martin Odegaard, 26, has greater goal contributions than any competitor in European qualifying - seven assists.

The Arsenal midfielder has featured in 67 matches for Norway since making his debut at the tender age of fifteen.

"Pair Haaland's achievements with the truth that in this generation we also have Martin Odegaard," stated an analyst.

Norway is a nation of five million people and we have both the best striker and I'd propose the top creator, certainly one of the premier midfielders, in the EPL.

Historical Relevance of Qualification

For the first time in many years Norway fans will experience the pleasure of cheering their team at an international tournament.

The Scandinavian country featured in the World Cups in 1994, 1998 and 1938, and Euro 2000.

Haaland's father, Alf Inge Haaland, featured in the 1994 competition.

Haaland has earlier stated being better than his dad represented a big career ambition for him.

"Norway will never win the World Cup," Haaland stated to an international magazine earlier this year.

Dodging Historical Exclusion

Haaland's qualification for the upcoming World Cup with Norway means he avoids his inclusion on the list of great players who didn't participate in the tournament.

Three Ballon d'Or winners didn't succeed to participate in the global tournament.

George Weah, who won trophies with Monaco, PSG, AC Milan and Chelsea, represented Liberia - who have never reached a World Cup.

Legendary Red Devils attacker George Best, considered by many as a true legend of the game, was a Ulster footballer during the sixties and seventies when they did not qualify.

Los Blancos icon Alfredo di Stefano represented three countries - Argentina, Colombia and Spain - but didn't make it to a World Cup with either country.
