Person That Grabbed Ariana Grande at Red Carpet Event Banned from Singapore
An individual of Australian nationality that leaped past a barrier and reached for celebrity Ariana Grande has been sent away and barred from Singapore.
The man, twenty-six, was sentenced to nine days in prison for disrupting public order and has now been "banned from entering the country again," Singaporean immigration authorities stated to Singaporean press.
He forced his way beyond security and charged at the actress and singer, who was attending the Asian premier for Wicked: For Good on November 13. Co-star Cynthia Erivo intervened to remove him from Grande.
The individual has a record of interrupting performances and star-studded occasions, including rushing the stage at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in this summer.
The occurrence caused anger in Singapore, with several individuals accusing him of triggering past trauma for the singer.
The celebrity has spoken of experiencing PTSD after a suicide bomb attack at her show in the English city in several years ago resulted in the deaths of over twenty people and injured hundreds.
Throughout the court proceedings, the judge was informed he had tried to gain access on the film's premiere on two occasions, according to Singaporean media.
He then made a second attempt to cross the barriers. Event security prevented him and held him in place.
The man subsequently shared recordings appreciating the celebrity for permitting his access and said he was "free."
Authorities arrested him the following day and charged him with causing a disturbance, to which he confessed.
The Court Judge Christopher Goh was referenced by Channel News Asia as remarking that Wen was "attention seeking", noting that he was wrong to assume he would not face any penalties.
The singer has not addressed the case.
Cynthia Erivo spoke about the incident to the press, stating that she "only aimed to verify my colleague was protected."
"I'm sure he didn't mean us danger, but you cannot be certain with those things, and I sought to make sure that she was OK. That was my immediate response," she commented.
