Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot conceded that it's understandable for doubts to be raised about his position following a further convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, marking the team's worst run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received plenty of support from the top,” Slot stated.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and get a victory naturally but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I accept my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Club Management
Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they back me.”
He added, “During our regular discussions I perceive the confidence. However I've not talked to them after this game so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Failings and Player Response
Slot expressed regret over known weaknesses from his team in their European loss, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder said.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a period such as this with results this poor.”
Jones finished, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is taken away, we'll continue to fight.”
“We will attempt to get this team back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it must improve.”
