This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the identical stature as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life free from concern.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a first responder, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “6-7” – originating from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A New Life
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the character of Miami: joyful, diverse, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Every time, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and strong coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
